At Segal, we emphasize the interaction of people with technology, services, and organizations. In human-centered design, the design takes into account human abilities, needs, and desires as well as the practical realities of technology and organizations.
Our approach combines depth in a discipline with cross-functional, multi-disciplinary design teams and projects. Learn more about Segal's philosophy of design.

Graduate and undergraduate design programs
We offer courses, certificates, and degree programs in Engineering Design. We are affiliated with the MMM and MPD professional masters degree programs, as well as the Northwestern Center for Engineering Education and Research (NCEER). We also have a strong relationship with the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences Writing Program since all of our courses emphasize the importance of clear communication in design.
- Our new Master of Science in Engineering Design & Innovation (EDI) offers a one-year program with a human-centered approach to engineering design.
- Engineering Design and Communication (EDC) provides all McCormick undergraduates with an introduction to the design process and technical communication
- The Certificate in Engineering Design helps McCormick undergraduates develop a set of design skills that will prove valuable in their careers.
- The BS in Manufacturing and Design Engineering (MaDE) offers a complete degree program for students interested in product and process design, manufacturing systems, and manufacturing management.
- The Master in Product Development (MPD) program offers a part time program for mid-to-senior level technically trained professionals who are involved in product development and design.
- The Management program in Design and Operations (MMM) combines two degrees: an MBA and an MEM (Master of Engineering Management)
